Job Description

Job Title: Communication Officer (Fisheries)

Organizational Setting: The Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) works with Members and partners to transform aquatic systems and promote the responsible and sustainable management of aquatic food systems.

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Communication Officer to support the development and implementation of communications and outreach activities to enhance the visibility of the GFCM's work among its stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement a result-driven communication strategy for the GFCM.
  2. Contribute to effective communication and outreach campaigns.
  3. Identify success stories and relevant media contacts across the region.
  4. Serve as the communications focal point within the GFCM Secretariat.
  5. Develop and coordinate communications and outreach at international fora and events.
  6. Evaluate the impacts of key communications and advocacy activities.
  7. Design tools, processes and guidelines to foster efficient collaboration.
  8. Maintain relevant repositories and databases related to communication.
  9. Ensure the application of donors' requirements in terms of communication.
  10. Ensure coherence with FAO's corporate communications policies.
  11. Work in close coordination with FAO's Office of Communications.

Requirements:

  1. Advanced university degree in communication, international relations, social science, journalism, political science or a related field.
  2. Five years of relevant experience in communications and/or outreach in international organizations or in private enterprises.
  3. Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO official language.

Technical/Functional Skills:

  1. Work experience in more than one location or area of work.
  2. Knowledge and experience of the work and functioning of Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs).
  3. Experience in supporting the development of sound communication strategies.
  4. Experience in supporting large-scale conferences or meetings.
  5. Experience in preparing high-quality communications materials.
  6. Familiarity with FAO strategies and processes supporting communications.
  7. Experience in effectively adapting communications to a variety of audiences.
  8. Working knowledge of French is considered a strong asset.
