About the Role

Hitachi Rail is seeking a highly skilled Traction and Auxiliary Control Engineer to join our team in Naples, Italy. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing control systems for our rail infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct requirements analysis to define project control architecture and detailed requirements
  • Model and simulate propulsion systems and power converters to support component sizing and topology choice
  • Develop functions and algorithms to satisfy technical specifications
  • Design and implement harmonics emission evaluation and control actions to ensure EMI compliance
  • Develop propulsion diagnostic and condition-based maintenance algorithms
  • Ensure project software documentation meets applicable railway standards
  • Design and implement hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop environments
  • Conduct control testing and validation in SIL and HIL environments
  • Integrate and validate systems on board
  • Provide commissioning and service support
Requirements
  • Excellent knowledge of automation control theory and signal processing
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, and Linux
  • Experience in developing control algorithms on embedded systems in real-time contexts
  • Knowledge of power converter topologies and electrical/hybrid propulsion systems
  • Understanding of control electronics and microprocessor architectures
  • Knowledge of communication buses and protocols
  • Experience with MathWorks modeling tools and VHDL programming
  • Knowledge of software engineering and requirements management

Education and Qualifications

Automation, Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering degree preferred. Ph.D. in automation engineering a plus.
