About the Role

Hitachi Rail is seeking a highly skilled Traction and Auxiliary Control Engineer to join our team in Naples, Italy. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing control systems for our rail infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct requirements analysis to define project control architectures and detailed requirements.
  2. Model and simulate propulsion systems and power converters to support component sizing and topology choice.
  3. Develop functions and algorithms to satisfy technical specifications.
  4. Maintain software and firmware libraries.
  5. Evaluate harmonics emission and implement control actions to ensure EMI compliance.
  6. Design propulsion diagnostic and condition-based maintenance algorithms.
  7. Ensure project software documentation meets applicable railway standards.
  8. Design hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop environments.
  9. Perform control testing and validation in SIL and HIL environments.
  10. Validate systems in combined tests and on-board integration tests.
  11. Provide commissioning and service support.
  12. Support routine testing of control electronics and power converters.
Requirements
  1. Excellent knowledge of automation control theory and signal processing.
  2. Proficiency in programming languages C/C++, Python, Linux, and Eclipse.
  3. Preferred experience in developing control algorithms on embedded systems in real-time contexts.
  4. Good knowledge of power converter topologies and electrical/hybrid propulsion systems.
  5. Knowledge of control electronics and microprocessors architectures.
  6. Knowledge of communication buses (CAN, Ethernet, MVB) and protocols (J1939, IPTCOM, TRDP, TCN).
  7. Knowledge of MathWorks modeling tools (MATLAB & Simulink).
  8. Knowledge of VHDL language and ability to program FPGA.
  9. Knowledge of software engineering standards (EN50128, EN 50657, IEEE1558).
  10. Knowledge of requirements management tools (IBM Rational DOORS).

Education and Qualifications

Automation, Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering degree, preferably with a Ph.D. in automation engineering.
