Key Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person customer service at the library service desk, responding to patron inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Conduct circulation transactions, search for materials in the library catalog, and direct patrons to reference librarians for research assistance.
  • Process requests and materials for the Pickup & Go holds service, answer incoming phone calls, and shelve returned books.
  • Perform light clerical work, routine office tasks, and run errands as directed by Access Services staff.
  • Participate in library projects and contribute to the development of new initiatives.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Attention to detail and reliability, with the ability to perform repetitive tasks with great accuracy and consistency.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle difficult situations and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Experience using hardware, software, and wireless network access, with a preference for familiarity with the library's catalog, journals, databases, and web search engines.
  • Cross-training in multiple areas is required, with a preference for students who have availability on evenings and weekends.

Working Conditions

The Access Services Technician will work in a fast-paced library environment, with frequent interactions with patrons and staff. The position requires physical effort, including pushing a wheeled cart of books or other materials, some stooping and bending, and moderate lifting (up to 20 pounds).

Compensation

The hourly wage for this position is $11.25.
