Position Overview

The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist plays a crucial role in the development, execution, and oversight of the organization's environmental, health, and safety initiatives. This position is essential for ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations at all levels.
  • Stay informed about new and updated regulations, interpreting their implications for site operations.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and work instructions as necessary.
  • Provide training on the effective application of policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular assessments of policy performance and adherence.
  • Coordinate and execute various EHS activities to maintain compliance with regional and state regulatory authorities.
  • Maintain effective relationships with regulatory bodies and certification organizations.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and complaints related to EH&S, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Conduct routine safety observations and advise leadership and employees on EHS topics.
  • Facilitate EHS training for both new and existing employees, ensuring proper documentation of training records.
  • Monitor and report on EHS measures and metrics, establishing compliance benchmarks.
  • Research and draft effective EHS procedures and policies.
  • Foster constructive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implement global EHS initiatives and participate in relevant meetings, presenting safety performance data.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not entail supervisory responsibilities and reports directly to the site Managing Director, with a dotted line to the Plant Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental engineering, or a related field (required).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in EH&S management or a specialist role within the mechanical industry.
  • Certification as RSPP as per the State-Regions Agreement.
  • Familiarity with ISO or other relevant EH&S standards.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local EH&S regulations.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and assess EH&S programs and policies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
