Position Overview

Hitachi Rail is seeking a dedicated and proactive Maintenance Field Engineer who excels in a dynamic work environment. The ideal candidate will be adept at handling a variety of responsibilities, ranging from the statistical evaluation of maintenance data to comprehensive knowledge of train systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the collection of RAM data during service operations, establishing data record structures in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with System Support Engineering to maintain detailed vehicle management and oversee changes to vehicle/product configurations, ensuring accurate traceability of each vehicle's status.
  • Manage infrastructure-based systems (such as MRX, PanMon, Gotcha) to guarantee receipt of notifications or maintenance alerts, and develop methods to utilize this data for condition-based maintenance. Aim for integration with SAP and Virdict systems.
  • Conduct performance analyses and provide recommendations for enhancements to both internal and external stakeholders regarding engineering support IT systems.
  • Support S&M Bid & Proposal efforts by defining budgets for new bidding initiatives.
  • Update spare part lists as issued by S&M Bid & Proposal, informed by maintenance plans, RAM analyses, and operational experiences.
  • Perform level of repair analysis (LORA) to establish efficient and cost-effective corrective maintenance, providing feedback to Rolling Stock Design Engineering and S&M Standards & Training for necessary modifications.
  • Assist maintenance operations with troubleshooting and management of maintenance activities, analyzing technical issues and recommending corrective actions as per System Support Engineering guidance.
  • Prepare technical specifications for depot tools, liaising with suppliers, coordinating design reviews, and overseeing installation, testing, and commissioning with Operations HSE and Operations support.
  • Provide training to depot maintainers in collaboration with S&M Standards & Training.
  • Conduct failure analyses for extrawarranty situations (both for customers and suppliers).
  • Validate the Maintenance Manual and Telediagnostic messages.
  • Report maintenance and safety defects, operational events, and failures.
  • Present operational data derived from exercises (RAM data) to customers.
  • Ensure the implementation of maintenance plans at depot and external sites from the commissioning phase.
  • Support Project Team activities through on-field analyses, including assisting S&M Standards & Training in developing engineering procedures and practices, optimizing maintenance execution, and performing minor modifications to components and hardware.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement programs within S&M Operations by collecting and managing operational data to meet and exceed contractual requirements.
  • Aid S&M Procurement and S&M Operations in evaluating and approving new or second-source suppliers, ensuring engineering and quality needs are met.
  • Support S&M Quality control in reporting component or train failures, assessing reparability, and evaluating related safety risks.

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Proven experience in the responsibilities outlined above.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related technical field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in railway vehicle maintenance engineering.
  • Background in the railway maintenance sector, focusing on maintenance plan optimization, complex troubleshooting, and RAMS analysis.
  • Willingness to tackle significant challenges associated with large-scale regional projects.
  • Proficient in vehicle system analysis.
  • Ability to interpret contract specifications and technical drawings.
  • Willingness to travel for short durations, typically exceeding 60% of the time.

Desired Skills/Knowledge

  • Previous experience in Maintenance Field Engineering within railway fleets.
  • Familiarity with Rail Train Subsystems such as Automatic Train Supervision, Vehicle, Telecommunication, STB, Pneumatic brake, traction converter, HVAC, etc.
  • Basic understanding of software configuration management and programming logic.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis programs and operational maintenance processes.
  • Experience with ECM projects and homologation planning.
  • Understanding of railway operations and signaling principles.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze and forecast spare parts based on historical data.
  • Commitment to design for maintainability and continuous improvement.

Education / Qualifications

Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical Engineering, or System Engineering, or equivalent technical background.

Languages

Proficiency in English.
