About the RoleThe AWS Cross Domain Services team is seeking a Systems Development Engineer who is passionate about operational excellence. This engineer will help to operate and scale the services that connect AWS regions of differing security requirements. An Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) is a collection of AWS regions provided for a customer with specific security requirements. The AWS Cross Domain Services team provides solutions for customers to move data between regions with differing security requirements. We are obsessed with earning and maintaining customer trust. AWS is building some of the largest and most complex distributed systems in the world and the AWS Cross Domain Services team is essential to AWS’s dedicated cloud expansion. The position further requires the candidate to opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.Key ResponsibilitiesShape the development of infrastructure foundational services.Write tools and services to improve automation for deployment and releases.Build and maintain test fleets.Perform functional and regression testing on software.Define and perform stress testing.Monitor production software.Build on existing services and architectures and create new automated solutions.Investigate issues deeply and reinvent systems, processes, and tools as needed to drive continuous improvement for our customers.Basic QualificationsBachelor’s degree, or CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional).5+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby.4+ years of experience with systems development deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment.4+ years of experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems to include software development, operations, automation, and process improvement.Current, active U.S. Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph.Preferred Qualifications5+ years of development/programming/scripting language (Python/Java/Bash/Perl) experience.Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers.Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production.Compensation & BenefitsOur compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
