Electrical Engineer for Space Robotics

For this position (contract duration 18 months), we are looking for a highly motivated and proactive engineer to take care of the avionics and other electrical subsystems of robot prototypes for space exploration. Furthermore, he/she will provide general electronics and electric engineering support for the different projects in the DLS Lab.

Within the team, your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop/improve the electronics/electric systems of new and existing quadruped robot systems and subsystems, testing and debugging.
  • Design and hands-on fabrication of wiring harnesses and cabling for avionics.
  • Interfacing with other teams inside IIT and subcontractors/suppliers.
  • Integrate with the team of engineers supporting day-to-day R&D and maintenance activities (debugging, testing, developing new concepts, improving robot performance).

REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Robotics, or Mechatronics Engineering
  • Hands-on experience with real robot/mechatronics prototypes
  • Experience with real-time systems
  • Experience with wiring and cable routing of robots and/or mechatronic systems
  • Knowledge of embedded systems
  • Knowledge in the design and debugging of electronic boards, soldering skills
  • Programming skills (preferably in C/C++)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability/willingness to integrate within a multidisciplinary international research group
  • Good command in spoken and written English

Additional preferred Qualifications:

  • certification of soldering and/or wire harnessing
  • experience with legged robots, microcontroller programming, battery systems, and/or EtherCAT/CAN.
