RINA is currently recruiting for a Naval Ships Marine Surveyor to join its office in Genoa, Italy within the Marine Special Ships Excellence Centre Division.

Mission

As a Naval Ships Marine Surveyor you will play a central role in upholding maritime safety and quality standards. Your mission is to conduct thorough surveys and inspections to verify that naval vessels conform to both international regulatory mandates and classification society requirements. Through your expertise and rigorous evaluation, you will contribute directly to the integrity, reliability, and compliance of marine assets operating worldwide.

Key Accountabilities

  • Regulatory Compliance: Diligently ensure that all projects comply with the latest classification society rules, international maritime regulations, and statutory requirements. You will remain vigilant in applying emerging regulatory changes to maintain the highest standards of vessel safety and operational legality.
  • Technical Expertise and Advisory: Provide authoritative technical guidance to clients, shipowners, and manufacturers. Your insights will encompass classification criteria, ship design intricacies, construction methodologies, and preventive maintenance strategies to promote vessels' longevity and safety.
  • Survey Execution and Problem Resolution: Lead and perform detailed surveys on new builds and ships in service. Address technical problems proactively and devise actionable solutions during inspections or client consultations to mitigate risks and maintain compliance.
  • Quality Assurance in Reporting: Guarantee meticulous accuracy and clarity in inspection documentation using standardized templates and digital tools. Your reports will support transparent communication and facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Client Engagement and Education: Foster strong client relationships by explaining classification processes, emphasizing compliance importance, and advising on operational best practices to enhance their understanding and adherence.
  • Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams within RINA and with external stakeholders, driving consistent knowledge exchange and continuous improvement in survey methodologies.
  • Continuous Professional Development: Commit to ongoing learning to stay current with industry innovations, newly developed regulations, and technological advancements. Pursue relevant certifications and training to elevate your professional credentials.
  • Ethical Integrity: Uphold the highest ethical standards by promoting transparency, fairness, and impartiality in all professional interactions, thereby reinforcing RINA's trusted reputation.
  • Travel and Field Work: Prepare for and manage work-related travel efficiently, estimated between 25% and 50%, operating flexibly to meet the demands of on-site inspections and client engagement worldwide. #LI-MC1

Education

Master's Degree in Naval Engineering

Qualifications

To excel as a Naval Ships Marine Surveyor, candidates should possess:

  • A Master's Degree in Naval Engineering or an equivalent qualification demonstrating deep technical knowledge.
  • At least 3 years' experience as a Junior Surveyor or a minimum of 5 years in engineering or survey roles within the marine industry or related specialized sectors.
  • Proficient English communication skills, enabling clarity in technical reporting and stakeholder interaction.
  • A demonstrated ability to interpret and apply RINA Rules, Guides, and statutory regulations effectively.
  • Strong competency in reviewing engineering plans and familiarity with shipbuilding and operational principles.
  • Experience in conducting various types of surveys, including new building assessments, in-service inspections, marine management systems audits, and certification of testing activities.
  • Solid understanding of ship engineering systems, machinery, and related technologies.
  • Competence with software tools relevant to survey tasks and documentation management.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to make sound decisions under operational constraints.
  • A commitment to ethical standards, professional development, and teamwork.
