Established in 2011, our company is leading the way in helping businesses profitably and sustainably unlock the full potential of the final frontier. As a member of our team, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside a diverse group of highly skilled individuals, all driven by a shared passion for innovation and excellence. Join us in our global mission to push the boundaries of what's possible and take your ambition to new heights. Apply now and join us in shaping the future of space.

D-Orbit is hiring a systems engineer with robotics background to join our growing robotics engineering team. You will contribute to the design of D-Orbit next-gen spacecraft platforms to deliver in-orbit services on space assets. Particularly you will be the technical responsible for the development of robotics equipment, working with the rest of the team to define joint mechanisms, mechatronics, innovative control algorithms for serial link manipulators and the overall robotics architecture. Your ultimate objective as robotics systems engineer is to deliver the best solution in terms of technical performance and assurance, taking into account design-to-cost and -production needs.

You will be involved in mission and spacecraft design and development, following the full development cycle from preliminary conceptualization to manufacturing, assembly, integration and testing of the real spacecraft for the maiden flight mission. You will interface with the procurement team to scout new technologies and purchase equipment to build the spacecraft, and support prototyping/manufacturing technicians during the assembly and verification activities. After launch, you will provide technical support related to therobotics domain to the Spacecraft Controllers (SpaCon) during the on-orbit operations.

On top of the project responsibilities, you will contribute to the company know-how related to robotics, including thedefinition of engineering processes and identification of tools and GSE/equipment for the robotic lab. You will participate in discussions with representatives of other engineering domains to disseminate the robotics development within the company.

Overall, you will become one of the focal points concerning robotics competencies and developments and contribute to the development of the robotic solutions for the new era of space services.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Be the technical responsible for robotics systems and related subsystems;
  • Actively contribute and monitor the development of robotics architecture and design;
  • Robotics systems and subsystems budgeting and analyses, including mechanism kinematics and dynamic sizing, technological trade-off analyses, controllability analysis, etc.;
  • Coordinate the integration of robotic subsystems into overall systems architecture, particularly managing all interfaces, e.g. physical, software and functional / operational ones;
  • Contribute to the stakeholder/mission/project requirements capturing & management;
  • Contribute to the robotic systems verification and validation plan and requirements compliance;
  • Define the verification test procedures, and support test setup and execution;
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team of specialists on the spacecraft systems and s/s design, becoming the reference point for robotic ones;
  • Interface with and support AIV team and related activities;
  • Interface with prototyping / manufacturing to support assembly and verification (ground);
  • Interface with SpaCons to support on-orbit verification and validation during mission execution;
