RINA is currently recruiting for a Principal SAR System Engineer to join its office in ROME within the Electronics and System Engineering Division.MissionWe are looking for a Senior SAR System Engineer with deep expertise in synthetic aperture radar design, signal processing, and image performance optimization. This role will drive the technical direction of next-generation SAR payload.Key AccountabilitiesLead SAR payload architecture, RF chain design, and antenna specificationsDevelop SAR acquisition modes (Stripmap, Spotlight, ScanSAR)Define image quality metrics (NESZ, resolution, ambiguity ratios)Collaborate with AI / ML teams on onboard processing algorithmsOversee calibration, radiometric accuracy, and commissioning phasesInterface with ground segment for data exploitationEducationBachelor’s Degree in Engineering General or Aerospace EngineeringQualifications15+ years of experience in SAR system developmentExpertise in SAR processing algorithms and RF payload designExperience with X-band, onboard processing, and data compressionStrong analytical skills and experience with ESA / ECSS environmentsCompetenciesADDRESS THE WAY - Have a big picture of different situations and reinterpret it in a perspective wayBUILD NETWORK - Forge trust relationships, across departments, and outside the organizationCLIENT INTIMACY - Embrace internal and external client needs, expectations, and requirements to ensure maximum satisfactionEARN TRUST - Take everyone's opinion into account and remain open to diversityMAKE EFFECTIVE DECISIONS - Structure activities according to priorities, actions, resources and constraintMANAGE EMOTIONS - Recognise one's and other's emotions and express and regulate one's reactionsPIONEER CHANGE - Actively embrace change and benefit from the new circumstancesPROMOTE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT - Promote commitment by keeping promises as a Role ModelTHINK FORWARD - Capitalise on experiences and translate them into action plans for the futureRINA is a multinational company providing a wide range of services in the energy, marine, certification, infrastructure & mobility, industry, research & development sectors.
