Human Technopole (HT) is an interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT is composed of five centres: Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, Neurogenomics and Health Data Science. The Centres work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.

**About the Lab**

The Sottoriva Lab in the Computational Biology Research Centre at Human Technopole combines computational and experimental techniques to study cancer genomics and evolution, with particular focus on drug resistance. We generate multi-omics and longitudinal data from patients and model systems (patient-derived organoids) and integrate those with mathematical models of tumour evolution, as well as machine learning approaches. The ultimate goal is to predict the future course of the disease and design novel therapeutic strategies to control drug resistance. The central paradigm of our approach is the combination of novel experiments with theory, where experimental designs and data generation are grounded in evolutionary biology as applied to cancer research.

Importantly, the lab benefits from state-of-the-art experimental and computational infrastructure provided by HT, in particular the HT National Facility for Genomics as well as our advanced High-Performance Computing and Data Storage infrastructure that support all the computational needs of HT.

**Key tasks and responsibilities**
- Perform single cell multi-omics experiments in patient tissues and patient-derived organoids.
- Coordinate data generation from patient samples and models, with particular focus on single-cell multiomics.
- Implement novel single cell techniques, including for spatial biology, according to the needs of the lab.
- Think independently, providing scientific insight and drive projects forward and explore new avenues of research.
- Collaborate effectively with senior lab personnel such as the lab manager and other staff scientist.
- Work closely with the lab’s wet and dry researchers as well as the research centre’s experimental core positions for data generation and computational core positions for data analysis.
- Interact effectively with the HT National Facility for Genomics.
- Be responsible for implementing priorities and resource planning.
- Help select, lead and mentor junior staff.
- Prepare for centre reviews by external experts.
- Build effective links and collaborations within HT.
- Develop links with other national and international institutions.
- Support third-party fundraising.

**Essential requirements**
- PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant field such as biology, chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in cancer biology and genomics.
- 2+ years experiences in a leadership role within a research centre, laboratory, or facility.
- Fluency in English - HT is an international research institute.

**Preferred requirements**
- Expertise in setting up single-cell technologies.
- Experience in handling human samples, especially for genomic profiling.
- Experience with tissue culture techniques, in particular patient-derived model systems.
- Expertise in CRISPR techniques or spatial ‘omics approaches would be highly advantageous.
- Excellent lab skills, with a strong ability to troubleshoot.
- Demonstrated track record of independently leading projects.

- Ability to interact effectively with other teams and work synergistically to drive projects forward.
- Proven leadership, communication, team building, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and to work independently.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
