**Organizational Setting**

The FAO Health Services provides preventative medical, counselling and occupational health services to FAO employees and their dependents and advice on all health-related matters to the Organization. Within the Health Services, the counselling unit provides services to promote the psychological health and well-being of employees and contributes to a healthy work environment, at Headquarters and in field offices worldwide.

**Reporting Lines**

Under the general supervision of the Chief of Health Services and reporting directly to FAO assigned chief of counselling unit, in close collaboration with the rest of the Health Services team, the Staff Counsellor consultant will be responsible for the implementation and coordination of staff health and wellbeing programmes, with particular focus on psychological preparation for hardship assignments to minimize ill health effects on the persons and on the Organization.

The Staff Counsellor consultant works on the basis of the professional code of ethics, within which professional integrity and confidentiality are amongst the highest requirements.

**Technical Focus**

Prevention, identification and resolution of work and personal psychosocial related problems at the individual/strategy/policy levels

**Tasks and responsibilities**
- Coordinate the delivery of staff counselling services;
- Coordinate the work of FAO team of counsellors and follow up on all aspects of delivery of psychosocial support to HQ and decentralized offices;
- Intervene and assist each regional counsellor in the more complex cases or critical incidents;
- Provide culturally sensitive psychological support to all FAO employees (to individuals and/or group sessions) either in person or via teleconference using Skype or similar technologies, and referral to outside mental health care services as appropriate;
- Implement FAO support programme for FAO Level 3 emergency countries and crisis areas, and provide active psychosocial support during emergencies and/or after critical incidents to ensure continued staff well-being;
- Deliver workshops, trainings, and information sessions on a wide range of topics (e.g. stress management, team-building, problem-solving, conflict resolution, etc.) to employees from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, to ensure that staff regularly receive relevant information, and are aware of sources where to find information or assistance;
- Review and implement a Peer Support program for decentralized offices;
- Based on identification of risks in the workplace, work with FAO counsellors to provide preventative, educational and information programmes and group presentations on topics including but not limited to psychosocial health problems, workplace wellbeing, crisis preparedness and response, and other health promotion topics;
- Implement the planned missions within the allowed budget of CSLH, trainings and implement other staff counselling activities to ensure the provision of cohesive counselling services;
- Work with other UN agencies to provide cost effective coordinated support;
- Work with FAO counsellors to maintain up-to-date, accurate records of client contacts in the Health Services’ system (Cority);
- Participate in inter-agency activities, working groups or conferences of the UN counselling network, as directed by the assigned chief of FAO staff counselling unit

**CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING**

**Minimum Requirements**
- University degree (preferably PhD, Master, MD) in Psychiatry or Psychology or Counselling, or other mental health profession;
- Professional, unrestricted Registration and licence as a Psychologist and/or Psychiatrist, and/or Counsellor or equivalent in country of origin;
