Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Building Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the Arizona State Prison Complex - Eyman. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for overseeing and performing preventative maintenance tasks, repairs, and other facility maintenance duties. This includes plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), kitchen equipment repairs, and utility service systems.



Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and plan maintenance-related projects, including pricing, material lists, and equipment needs
  • Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks as required and scheduled
  • Complete related documentation as required by policy and as directed by supervisor
  • Basic knowledge of office equipment, including computers, internet research, and completion of documents
  • Conduct inspections and maintain tools and equipment to ensure proper working order and account for all items
  • Supervise and evaluate inmate worker performance
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required, and perform other duties appropriate to the assignment
  • Drive on State business


Requirements

  • Knowledge of structural issues regarding building and utility service systems, including blueprints, safety practices, and codes
  • Knowledge of trades, including electrical, electronic, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, general facility maintenance, and preventative maintenance
  • Knowledge of budgeting, including estimating costs and ordering materials
  • Knowledge of common and specialized tools and equipment for performing duties
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and national and local building codes/regulations
  • Skill in basic reading of blueprints, schematics, and general construction
  • Skill in mechanical devices, electrical, and preventative maintenance
  • Skill in using and demonstrating the use of common and specialist tools
  • Skill in written and verbal communication
  • Skill in building and maintaining interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50lbs
  • Ability to push/pull up to 50lbs
  • Ability to walk/run up to 0.25 miles
  • Ability to work in a prison environment
  • Ability to supervise inmate work crews
  • Ability to learn and adhere to ADCRR policies and procedures


Preferred Qualifications

  • On-the-job training as a technical or generalized maintenance staff person
  • Technical education
  • Specialized trade schools and unions
