About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our Engineering & Construction department in Milan. As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting medium to large Italian Projects on a primary and excess level, building relationships with brokers and clients, and promoting cross-selling opportunities.

Main Responsibilities

  • Entertain contacts with brokers and clients to source suitable business
  • Triage new submissions and position Corporate Solutions on a programme at the earliest possible stage
  • Underwrite business, assessing risk, coverage, terms, and conditions, and rate business within the rating tool landscape
  • Communicate proactively, timely, and transparently with clients and brokers to set the foundation for a positive outcome
  • Underwrite business within guidelines efficiently and optimally
  • Negotiate with clients and brokers in cooperation with the branch manager or distribution manager
  • Regular contact with brokers and clients
  • Promote positive interaction and collaboration with stakeholders, such as distribution managers, risk engineers, claims, contracts services, actuarial services, products underwriters, underwriter assistants, etc.

You will be part of a diverse, energetic, and dynamic team made up of 4 colleagues with different levels of seniority and background, passionate about the job and eager to teach and mentor.

About You

  • Completed University degree in engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in the Italian direct property insurance market, underwriting medium to large corporates
  • Italian first language; proficient English language skills are vital
  • Ability to assess risks, coverages, terms, and conditions of an insurance placement
  • Proficiency in the use of underwriting tools and IT applications
  • Flair for numbers and orders of magnitudes and the ability to deal with complexity and sometimes incomplete information
  • Comfortable in building relationships with clients and brokers, providing proven communication, presentation, and negotiating skills
