Position Overview

This role is for a Senior Safety Engineering Specialist focused on the Functional Safety lifecycle within mechatronic developments. The successful candidate will collaborate with Dana's Functional Safety experts across diverse teams to ensure consistent and reliable functional safety outcomes for our mechatronic products.

Key Responsibilities and Challenges

This position is pivotal in executing the Functional Safety lifecycle for mechatronic innovations.


• Collaborate effectively with Dana's Functional Safety professionals to ensure uniform results in the functional safety of our mechatronic offerings.


• Engage actively in the strategy formulation and implementation of the functional safety lifecycle.


• Work alongside engineers and external partners, including safety consultants, on various programs and projects.


• Generate all necessary documentation and deliverables, including but not limited to:


• Safety Verification and Validation activities.


• Facilitate problem resolution and maintain tracking processes, providing updates on the status of issues to key stakeholders as needed.

Main Duties

Support the development and execution of the functional safety lifecycle strategy.

Collaborate with engineers and external partners on project work, producing essential documentation such as:

  • Safety Plans
  • Safety Manuals
  • Safety Concepts
  • ASIL ratings and decompositions
  • Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA)
  • Safety Requirements
  • Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) & Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Safety Verification and Validation activities
  • Confirmation measures
  • Safety Cases

Lead the problem resolution process and provide updates on tracked issues to stakeholders as required.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Automotive, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

Professional Experience:


• Over 5 years of progressive experience with vehicle system architectures and control systems.


• At least 2 years in a similar role focusing on functional safety in automotive products.


• Familiarity with functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, EN 13849, ISO 26262, and others related to systems, hardware, and software development.


• Strong understanding of ISO 26262 and practical experience in its application.


• Knowledge of safety concepts, hazard analysis, risk assessment, FMEA, and FTA at both system and sub-system levels.


• Proficient in systems engineering principles with a multi-disciplinary approach.


• Proven ability to elicit and implement requirements from design through to production.


• Experience with requirement management tools such as DOORS, Polarion, or similar.


• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, across all organizational levels.


• Commitment to ethical standards and a diverse, inclusive workplace.


• Strong analytical skills and proactive problem-solving abilities.


• Ability to interface effectively with various disciplines to achieve desired outcomes.

Preferred Skills


• Experience in functional safety for automotive applications, particularly in powertrain and electric vehicle sectors.


• Knowledge of requirements engineering and Automotive A-Spice.


• Familiarity with SysML/UML and requirement management tools.


• Strong strategic and hands-on leadership capabilities.


• Excellent customer relationship management skills.
