Job Description:
The Healthcare Education Program Coordinator will play a critical role in arranging, scheduling, and coordinating clinical rotations with local practitioners and faculty members for health professions students. Additionally, this position will involve developing and coordinating all aspects of the Community Health Workers (CHWs) training program, as well as planning and expanding effective health education strategies, interventions, and programs for the community.

Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Health Education, or equivalent, along with 4 to 6 years of relevant experience. They will be responsible for:

  • Planning, scheduling, and coordinating Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, Dietetics, Dental, and other allied health professions' student clinical rotations for identified regional medical partner providers
  • Maintaining close communication and information sharing with AHEC Clinical Coordinators, local practitioners/faculty members, physician office and clinic managers, and other physician groups
  • Serving as the main point of contact for the health care preceptors and prospective employers
  • Developing a comprehensive recruiting communication strategy and establishing an extended professional network
  • Orienting students to the rotation site and practitioner/faculty member
  • Maintaining regular communication with students, providing them with information about recruitment and engagement, University course coordinators and local practitioners for scheduling, credentialing before rotations, arranging student housing, and acquiring required forms and evaluations
  • Identifying and enlisting new clinical sites and practitioners for teaching, in collaboration with University/college course coordinators
  • Orienting new practitioners/faculty members to the teaching expectations of the respective University/college programs
  • Planning, scheduling, and coordinating logistics with the Community Health Workers (CHWs), and implementing health education classes in various settings
  • Assessing health needs, resources, and capacity for health education/promotion, and conducting community surveys and evaluations
  • Developing programs, materials, and events to educate people about health topics
  • Providing classes to the community on how to manage existing health conditions
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of programs and educational materials
  • Assisting programs and staff at GCTC to advance recruitment, growth, and development of health occupations within the college
  • Collaborating and participating at Gateway's events as needed
  • Planning and coordinating all aspects of the CHW program training
  • Processing the application and maintaining the training center certification required by the state
  • Maintaining communication with the KY Office of Community Health Workers (KOCHW) regarding CHWs certifications, re-certifications, and Continuing Education
  • Attending AHEC-related and CHWs regional and state-wide meetings
  • Providing and delivering presentations and workshops for GCTC employees and students to increase student interest in healthcare professions
  • Assisting AHEC Center Director and staff in preparing and facilitating AHEC events such as summer camps, Scholars, NKY HC Showcase, Explorers, etc.
  • Scheduling logistics and securing resources for on and off-campus recruiting activities

Required Skills and Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a strong foundation in healthcare education, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with others. You will also need to have a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and external partners. A Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Health Education, or equivalent, along with 4 to 6 years of relevant experience, is required. Teaching experience and a background in working with students from diverse populations are preferred. Experience working at the community college level is also desirable.
