Senior Automation Specialist, Innovation and Robotics Engineering

At Amazon, we are looking for an experienced and innovative Sr. Innovation Engineer to lead the application of new automation technologies into our EU Delivery Station Network.

The successful candidate will be a member of the WW Amazon Logistics Innovation Engineering team and will be responsible for defining, testing, validating, and implementing various Robotics and Automation systems in the Delivery Stations network in EU.

This role requires experienced and entrepreneurial-minded engineers with combined robotics, engineering, planning, and analytical skills.

We are seeking a candidate who can own robotics and automation implementation projects end-to-end and partner with Process Engineering teams, Operations leaders, Facilities, and Engineering teams to effectively operate advanced robotics technology across Amazon's last mile network.

The role will be based either in the UK, Germany, or Italy with up to 40% of time on job travel, either domestically or to other EMEA countries.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with Product teams and WW Engineering to drive customer (AMZL) requirements for implementing new automation tech in Delivery Stations network.
  • Identifying process paths to automate based on various factors, including labor, cost, safety, performance, etc.
  • Autoring business cases to introduce automation to the Delivery Stations network to improve performance.
  • Defining pilot criteria and success metrics to validate proof of concept and performance targets set initially.
  • Collaborating with internal teams to provide technical documentation, such as flow diagrams, equipment layouts, installation details, schedules, and budgets for new automation systems to understand integration impacts on existing processes and building design.
  • Supporting lessons learned programs for new robotics and automation systems to understand improvements needed for next-generation design iterations.
  • Working with design and controls teams to detail out integration plans for MHE automation.
  • Partnering with simulation teams for validating new ideas and concepts to automate manual process paths.
  • Representing AMZL in cross-functional teams to work on future technologies, including robotics, automation, and IoT.
  • Supporting development and implementation of Service and Maintenance concepts for AMZL Field teams.

A day in the life of this role could include:

  • Working with new vendors on developing concepts for AMZL with automation and robotics technology.
  • Being in the field and learning the challenges that associates face.
  • Writing business cases and working with stakeholders to build a case for piloting new technology.
  • Diving deep into understanding how the technology influences AMZL processes and the associates' lives.
  • Iterating on new ideas to decide for the business on GO/NO-GO for the new tech into AMZL.

Key qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in the design and validation of complex Mechatronic systems.
  • Proven capabilities in managing complex projects.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience building with Machine learning, IoT, AI platforms.
  • Fluency in English language.
  • Knowledge of working with PLCs and coding.
  • Experience in using CAD and Simulation tools.
  • German/French languages is a relevant benefit but not a must-have for the role.
