Overview of the Role:
The Project Cost Controller is responsible for managing cost control processes for projects of varying complexity. This role may involve leading cost control activities for simpler projects or specific segments of more complex projects, often handling multiple assignments concurrently.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning:
For designated projects, oversee all elements of the cost control process, including the creation and upkeep of baseline cash flow and Estimate-at-Complete (EAC) forecasts. Generate budget reports and EAC assessments throughout the project lifecycle. Conduct a Risk & Opportunities assessment in collaboration with the project team. Responsibilities may also encompass earned value management in conjunction with the scheduling team.
Project Execution, Monitoring, and Control:
Manage all facets of cost control related to project scope. Process and monitor changes in accordance with an integrated change control protocol. Prepare forecasts for project expenditures and evaluate progress, including updates to Estimate at Completion and Earned Value Management, to fulfill project performance and financial reporting needs. Review expenditures to ensure compliance with established baselines and project scope. Foster effective communication and teamwork, ensuring that project metrics are maintained and shared with all stakeholders to keep them informed of project status. Update the Risk & Opportunities assessment and adjust contingencies as necessary. Develop or supervise project databases and systems to facilitate efficient communication of performance data among team members.
Project Closure:
Ensure proper project closure by archiving relevant information in financial, document management, and resource management systems. Conduct and communicate a final assessment of project completion costs. Identify and share opportunities for improvement, lessons learned, and strategies for risk mitigation in future projects.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify, evaluate, and implement enhancements that add value and improve overall project performance. Document and oversee lessons learned throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent as defined by Westinghouse.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Engineering, Business, Accounting, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in project controls or a technical role within the nuclear or construction sectors.
- Preferred: 3 years of experience in project controls within the relevant functional or technical area.
- Strong communication skills.
- Effective planning and organizational abilities.
- Team-oriented mindset.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Results-driven approach.
- Familiarity with the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide).
