Position Overview

We are seeking a Space Materials and Processes Specialist to contribute significantly to the design, development, manufacturing, and assembly of space-related equipment and assemblies. Your knowledge in materials science, manufacturing techniques, and space technology will be crucial for ensuring the reliability, performance, and safety of equipment utilized in space missions, adhering to ECSS standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Material and Mechanical Parts Evaluation: You will assess designs proposed by engineering, taking into account factors such as outgassing, corrosion resistance, radiation tolerance, and temperature conditions. These evaluations will be documented in project DML, DPL, and DMPL using ESA DMPL tool software or in accordance with project specifications.
  • Management of Critical PMP Items: You will oversee the qualification process for PMP items deemed critical by ECSS.
  • Approval Process for PMP Items: You will be responsible for obtaining approval for project PMP items from the entire customer chain by participating in MPCBs and managing RFA processes. Additionally, you will handle the approval of PMP items from suppliers through the project customer chain.
  • Development Harmonization: You will ensure that new manufacturing and assembly process developments align with the company's standard approach for qualification and ECSS compliance.
  • Participation in Project Reviews: You will engage in project reviews (PDR, CDR, etc.) as a Materials and Processes expert, coordinating with the PA manager. You will also evaluate supplier project reviews to assess their PMP items against ECSS requirements.
  • Risk Assessment: You will conduct risk assessments related to materials and processes, identifying potential challenges and implementing mitigation strategies in collaboration with the PA manager and the company risk manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the space sector, focusing on materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with space equipment design, manufacturing, and testing protocols.
  • Understanding of ECSS regulations pertinent to space equipment.
  • Experience in cleanliness and contamination control measures.
  • Strong adaptability and a collaborative spirit for working in international teams.
  • High motivation, proactive work ethic, and a strong sense of accountability.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of Italian is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with environmental and reliability testing for space equipment.
  • Familiarity with ECSS regulations regarding EEE parts soldering.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis techniques.
