Job Title: Medical Officer - Occupational Health Specialist

Job Summary:

The Medical Officer - Occupational Health Specialist will be responsible for providing medical care and advice to staff, as well as implementing occupational health and safety policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide emergency medical care and confidential medical advice to staff during office hours.
  • Coordinate and support nurses with clinical work, including sick leave-related cases.
  • Coordinate and manage medical evacuations and medical travels.
  • Carry out occupational health assessments to determine fitness for duty.
  • Review and evaluate cases related to service-incurred accidents and illnesses.
  • Review and manage recurring and prolonged sick-leave cases.
  • Implement FAO's Occupational Health and Safety plan in FAO headquarters and Decentralized Offices.
  • Design and develop occupational health-related guidelines.
  • Use and contribute to the continuous development of occupational health software.
  • Review and interpret medical data and surveys to evaluate the health of staff.
  • Support emergency preparedness planning and response to all identified hazards.

Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in medicine, including residency training in a medical specialty.
  • Five years of relevant clinical/medical experience, including occupational health and safety.
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO official language.

Technical/Functional Skills:

  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in occupational safety and health medicine.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear and concise reports and documents in English.

Working Conditions:

  • Extension of fixed-term appointments is based on certification of performance and availability of funds.
  • FAO reserves the right not to make an appointment.
  • Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances.
