Job Summary
The Deputy Director-General will provide strategic direction and oversight to designated administrative coordination, programmatic, and/or technical units of the Organization, ensuring the required environment for delivering the Organization's core functions and organizational results.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise the Director-General on the delivery of the FAO Strategic Framework -31, core functions, and organizational results under his/her area of responsibility;
- Ensure that FAO technical divisions effectively respond to the priority needs of FAO Members, in line with the FAO Strategic Framework -31;
- Promote and oversee FAO's operational response to the different regional priorities for food security, agriculture, and rural development;
- Promote close interactions with global entities in agricultural research for development;
- Advocate FAO's policy position and communicate its messages with respect to the areas under his/her mandate;
- Advocate the dissemination and application of information and knowledge, technology transfer, and capacity building;
- Lead FAO's work on partnerships with United Nations (UN) entities, civil society organizations, private sector, and other non-state actors;
- Act as chairperson of committees and boards placed under his/her direct responsibility;
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Post graduate qualifications or equivalent experience in a field related to the work of the Organization;
- Demonstrated professional competence and management/strategic leadership of a high order;
- Working knowledge (proficient – level C) of English and limited knowledge (intermediate – level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish);
- Ability to lead and work effectively with a diverse team of people of different national and cultural backgrounds in an international setting.
