Job Description

Financial Controller

Belmond is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of our hotel operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Control:
    • Oversee all sales, purchasing, salaries, and expenses to ensure compliance with Belmond policies and GAAP principles.
    • Implement and review financial policies to ensure effective financial management.
    • Audit compliance, including actioning recommendations and liaising with internal stakeholders.
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Produce monthly financial reports in accordance with GAAP.
    • Oversee the budgeting and forecasting process, including long-term planning.
    • Prepare monthly and annual financial reports.
  • Financial Performance:
    • Monitor budgets and report major deviations from approved budgets.
    • Partner with the General Manager to implement controls, solutions, and action plans.
    • Assist the General Manager in establishing local policies, rules, internal controls, and safeguards to ensure profitability and control of operations.
    • Advise and counsel the General Manager, HODs, and finance teams on all financial matters.
  • Treasury & Tax:
    • Manage treasury operations, including cash planning and reviewing the cash position to optimize fund use and minimize cash holdings.
    • Review changes in tax laws and accounting policies, assess their implications on the business, and ensure the finance team implements necessary changes.
  • Other:
    • Support the financial function of new product openings.
    • Assist with accounting related to hotel or asset sales, product closures, and ownership changes.
    • Manage relations with third-party owners and/or partners.
    • Facilitate communication and reporting between the Belmond regional office in Milan.
    • Communicate relevant information to the Divisional Financial Controller and the General Manager.
    Requirements
    • Relevant qualification or experience in accounting and finance.
    • Prior experience as a Financial Controller or equivalent.
    • Experience in hospitality/luxury hotels is essential.
    • Excellent communication skills in Italian and English.
    • Effective management, leadership, organization, communication, and presentation skills.
