Overview of the Role:
The Project Cost Controller is responsible for overseeing financial controls related to projects of varying complexity. This role may involve leading cost control processes for simpler projects or managing specific aspects of more complex project scopes. The Project Cost Controller may be assigned to multiple projects concurrently.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning:
For designated projects, execute all elements of the project cost control process, including the development and upkeep of baseline cash flow and Estimate-at-Complete (EAC) forecasts. Prepare budget reports and EAC documentation aligned with project scope throughout its lifecycle. Additionally, create a Risk & Opportunities assessment matrix based on team inputs, and collaborate with the scheduling team on earned value management systems.
Project Execution, Monitoring, and Control:
Manage all facets of project cost control activities concerning scope. Process, monitor, and track changes via an integrated change control process. Generate forecasts for project expenditures and progress evaluations, including EAC updates and Earned Value Management in conjunction with the scheduling team, to meet project performance and financial reporting needs. Ensure project expenditures comply with established baselines and scope. Foster teamwork and effective communication by maintaining and sharing project metrics to keep all stakeholders informed of project status. Update the Risks & Opportunities assessment matrix and adjust contingencies as necessary. Develop or supervise project databases, systems, and procedures to facilitate efficient information exchange among project team members.
Project Closure:
Ensure proper project closure by archiving relevant work in financial, document management, and resource management systems. Conduct and communicate a final assessment of project completion costs. Identify and relay opportunities for improvement, lessons learned, and risk mitigation strategies for future projects.
Support and Continuous Improvement:
Identify, evaluate, and implement value-added improvement initiatives that enhance overall project performance. Create and manage lessons learned documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent as defined by Westinghouse.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Engineering, Business, Accounting, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in project controls or a technical role within the nuclear or construction sectors.
- Preferred: 3 years of project controls experience in the relevant functional or technical area.
- Strong communication skills.
- Effective planning and organizational abilities.
- Team-oriented mindset.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Results-driven approach.
- Familiarity with the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide).
