Overview of the Role:

The Project Cost Controller is responsible for overseeing financial controls related to projects of varying complexity. This role may involve leading cost control initiatives for simpler projects or managing specific segments of more complex projects. The individual may be tasked with multiple projects concurrently.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning:

For assigned projects, execute all elements of the cost control process, including the creation and upkeep of baseline cash flow and Estimate-at-Complete (EAC) forecasts. Prepare budget reports and EAC documentation aligned with project objectives throughout its lifecycle. Develop a Risk & Opportunities assessment matrix in collaboration with the project team. This role may also involve participation in earned value management in conjunction with the scheduling team.

Project Execution, Monitoring, and Control:

Manage all facets of project cost control activities related to project scope. Process and monitor changes through an integrated change control system. Generate project expenditure forecasts and progress assessments, including EAC updates and earned value management, to fulfill project performance and financial reporting needs. Review expenditures to ensure compliance with established baselines and project scope. Foster teamwork and effective communication by maintaining and sharing project metrics to keep all stakeholders informed of project status. Update the Risk & Opportunities assessment matrix and adjust contingencies as necessary. Develop or supervise project databases, systems, and procedures to facilitate efficient communication of project performance data among team members.

Project Closure:

Ensure proper project closure by archiving relevant financial, document management, and resource management data. Conduct and communicate a final assessment of project completion costs. Identify and relay opportunities for improvement, lessons learned, and strategies for risk mitigation for future projects.

Support for Successful Project Execution:

Identify, evaluate, and implement enhancements that will add value and improve overall project performance. Create and manage a repository of lessons learned throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent as defined by Westinghouse.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Engineering, Business, Accounting, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in project controls or a technical role within the nuclear or construction sectors.
  • Preferred: 3 years of experience in project controls within the relevant functional or technical area.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Effective planning and organizational abilities.
  • Team collaboration skills.
  • Proficient time management.
  • Results-oriented mindset.
  • Familiarity with the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide).
