About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Underwriter to join our team in Milan, Italy. As an Underwriter, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of our risk management processes and maintaining the highest standards of customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of prospective Italian clients, analyzing financial statements, reviewing KYC documentation, and identifying potential financial crime risks.
  • Assess new customer applications and requests for additional products/services, ensuring they meet our risk appetite and creditworthiness criteria.
  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of prospective customers, considering factors such as financial strength, financial performance, and payment history.
  • Perform Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business (KYB) verification steps, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Understand and mitigate acquiring risks in complex propositions across various clients, sectors, and product offerings.
  • Engage with commercial teams and clients to maximize onboarding opportunities, manage case escalations, and advocate for the risk and underwriting function.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Financial Crime, Legal, and other Risk teams to address high-risk applications, negotiate contracts, and ensure robust risk management practices.
  • Participate in creating, developing, and documenting policies and processes across the underwriting function, identifying areas for improvement and making recommendations for change.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in an underwriting or credit risk role within a financial institution, with strong financial analysis skills and a deep understanding of the Italian market.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience in credit risk, underwriting, or a similar role within the financial services sector in the Italian market.
  • Knowledge of Credit, Fraud, and AML risk specifically within the Payments Industry, including knowledge of card scheme rules, industry regulations, and the chargeback process.
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, decision-making, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex underwriting decisions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • A customer-focused approach with the ability to balance risk management and customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, focusing on continuous improvement and achieving shared goals.
  • Motivation to grow and develop your skills with a passion for innovation and driving change within the payments industry.
  • Business fluency in English and Italian.
