Job Title: Director of Compliance and Policy

The State Bar of Wisconsin is seeking a highly skilled Director of Compliance and Policy to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance on a wide range of matters, including labor and employment, student rights, and public records requests.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide in-house legal counsel and investigation oversight on labor and employment-related matters, student registration, and enrollment, student services (IEP's and 504's) operations, Title 1 and IX compliance, staff and student investigations, etc.
  2. Coordinate efforts with external legal counsel for areas of representation that require litigation and other specialized services.
  3. Lead internal investigations on behalf of the district concerning employee and student violations of district policy, discrimination, harassment, bullying, and any other legal-related matters.
  4. Provide guidance and responses to Public Records Requests in collaboration with Public Information Officer / Communications Director.
  5. Represent the organization in administrative processes, including truancy cases, expulsion hearings, Office of Civil Rights reviews and complaints, subpoenas, grievances, WERC investigations, etc. as assigned.
  6. Monitor, review, and comment on policies and procedures implemented by the school district and Board of Education.
  7. Develop and lead the organization's legal resources and policy programs.
  8. Serve as Title IX Coordinator.
  9. Research and develop resources to keep the organization's administration and Board of Education apprised of current legal issues and policies affecting the school district.
Requirements:
  1. Juris Doctorate from accredited law school
  2. Three years of law experience
  3. License to practice law in the State of Wisconsin
  4. Prior legal experience in school law or in-house labor relations preferred
  5. Bilingual skills are highly valued but not required
