Job Title: Head of On Board Systems

About the Role

Hitachi Rail is seeking an experienced and skilled Head of On Board Systems to join our team. As a key member of our Engineering Department, you will be responsible for managing a team of systems engineers who design and develop on-board systems for mass transit platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead a team of systems engineers in the design and development of on-board systems, including brake, HVAC, passenger doors, fire detection, coupler, gangway, and floor systems.
  2. Collaborate with the Train System Engineer and project team to analyze system performance, functional, and integration requirements.
  3. Develop system requirements specifications for suppliers and define system architecture and functions with suppliers and the Train System Engineer.
  4. Develop functional specifications for the integration and operation of on-board systems on vehicles.
  5. Prepare system performance and functional test specifications.
  6. Support testing activities at supplier facilities and on vehicles until validation and homologation are complete.

Requirements

  1. At least 5 years of experience in the railway industry with system engineering roles.
  2. Knowledge of RAMS disciplines is an advantage.
  3. Knowledge of main regulations and standards relating to on-board systems in the railway business.
  4. Knowledge of office automation software and tools.
  5. Knowledge of system engineering processes throughout the life cycle of products and with an interdisciplinary approach.
  6. Recommended knowledge of electrical and mechanical design topics and software.
  7. Knowledge of IBM DOORS requirements management tool or equivalent.
  8. Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization and contribute with constructive and practical ideas and efforts.
  9. Readiness to work in a collaborative and international environment.
  10. Ability to work autonomously and in teams.
  11. Availability for national and international business trips.

Education and Qualifications

Languages

Good knowledge of written and spoken English is mandatory. English language knowledge at international C1 level is required.
