Serco is a prominent provider of Space Services, equipped with a vast pool of skilled professionals who have successfully supported numerous space missions for various governmental and space agencies worldwide, including ESA and NASA.

We are currently in search of a proficient and innovative Cloud DevOps Engineer to enhance our operations in the Frascati Office. This role is integral to a pioneering European initiative at the cutting edge of satellite technology and climate research.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Oversee the deployment, configuration, and management of cloud infrastructure components across various layers:
    • IaaS: virtual machines, storage, and networking.
    • CaaS: Docker, Kubernetes.
    • PaaS/SaaS: databases, identity services.
  • Enhance infrastructure for optimal performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD): Facilitate the implementation of CI/CD pipelines to automate software delivery and deployment processes. Configure build, test, and deployment pipelines utilizing tools such as GitLab CI/CD, Helm, and Rancher.
  • Monitoring: Supervise the health, performance, and availability of cloud infrastructure and applications using tools like Prometheus and the Elastic Stack for monitoring and alerting.
  • Security and Compliance: Adhere to security best practices and compliance measures to safeguard cloud infrastructure and data.
  • Performance Optimization: Assist in identifying performance bottlenecks and optimizing cloud infrastructure and applications for enhanced performance and scalability. Conduct performance testing, tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, DevOps engineers, architects, and business stakeholders, to comprehend requirements, provide guidance, and deliver effective solutions.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to documenting cloud infrastructure designs, configurations, and processes. Share knowledge and best practices with team members through documentation and collaborative efforts.
  • Stay Current with Cloud Technologies: Keep abreast of the latest cloud technologies, trends, and best practices. Engage in continuous learning and skill acquisition through training, certifications, and self-study.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Degree in Information Technology (IT), Engineering, or Technical Sciences.
  • Proven experience with cloud infrastructure and pipeline deployment.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems and scripting.
  • Experience with code versioning and CI/CD tools (e.g., Git, GitLab).
  • Hands-on experience with container orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Rancher).
  • Understanding of Agile and DevOps methodologies.
  • Proficient in English (B2 level) both written and spoken.
  • Able to integrate into an international/multicultural environment, demonstrating rapid self-starting capabilities and teamwork experience.
  • Ability to meet schedules and milestones.
  • Capacity to work effectively under pressure.
Desirable Skills:
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python).
  • Familiarity with the Elastic Stack.
  • Experience in writing technical documentation (e.g., procedures, technical notes, interface control documents).
  • Understanding of ticket management systems (e.g., JIRA).
  • Knowledge of Earth Observation satellite data product formats.
  • Familiarity with Copernicus and Destination Earth (DestinE) programs.
  • Strong critical thinking and self-organization skills.
