Site Operations Department

The Site Operations Department is tasked with ensuring the overall health of all mechanical and electrical systems, building maintenance, and the performance of all data modules within our data centers. This team operates 24/7 with Critical Facility Technicians (CFTs) on each shift, serving as the face of Vantage to our clients and the first line of defense regarding campus uptime and customer installation performance. Utilizing a Critical Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to plan and track necessary work, the Site Operations department conducts all preventative and corrective maintenance. Our culture promotes and rewards team performance that directly engages with clients and facility infrastructure, allowing us to deliver superior service that is both faster and more cost-effective.

Position Overview

The Chief Engineer will lead a team of CFTs under the guidance of the Director of Operations. This role will oversee workflow and work order management, training initiatives, event management, customer communications, recruitment, and performance management of the assigned CFT team. Our CFTs are highly regarded, well-trained, customer-centric professionals, recognized as some of the finest facilities engineers in the industry. This position will utilize your extensive experience to guide the team through complex maintenance challenges, including critical Method of Procedure (MOP) development, testing plans, spare parts strategies, capital planning, end-of-life replacements, and facility expansions while minimizing risks to our clients and their operations.

While this role emphasizes leadership, the expectation is to function as a Chief Engineer first and a people manager second. This position is not a conventional Critical Facilities Engineer role; if you are someone who can take on hands-on tasks when necessary, this opportunity is ideal for you. Our goal is to elevate our team with a Chief Engineer who has practical experience and can demonstrate best practices to others.

Essential Job Functions

  • Daily management and administration of engineering and operations functions at the facility, focusing on the safe and effective operation of machinery and building systems.
  • Ensure accountability among employees for preventive and corrective maintenance of facility equipment.

Duties

  • Comprehend the engineering and operational aspects of building systems, promptly identifying performance deficiencies and responding to operational and emergency situations.
  • Oversee contracted service work at the facility, including scope development, bidding, awarding, and contract administration.
  • Train CFTs in new processes and procedures as necessary.
  • Direct and maintain the site-specific preventive maintenance and work order program.
  • Author After Action Reviews (AAR) and Root Cause Analyses (RCA).
  • Safeguard and enhance the value of our assets, ensuring that building machinery and systems meet or exceed their expected lifespan.
  • Assist in preparing operational and capital budget components.
  • Ensure that major projects executed at the facility are properly planned, executed, and closed out according to industry best practices.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Extensive expertise in mission-critical infrastructure installations; a knowledgeable resource for overall site infrastructure, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in facility or plant engineering and maintenance supervision is strongly preferred.
  • Direct managerial experience and strong interpersonal skills are preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills in both oral and written formats.
  • Proficiency in English and Italian is required.
