The Role:

As we set ambitious growth objectives, our underwriting team plays a pivotal role in ensuring a seamless onboarding experience for new merchants. We are launching a dedicated underwriting unit in Milan, focusing on the Italian market, which will collaborate closely with our Risk teams in the UK and Spain.

This new team will act as a safeguard against fraud, financial crime, and credit risks. Your expertise in both financial and non-financial analysis will be crucial in assessing applicants against Dojo's risk appetite.

In this role, you will help establish the in-market underwriting department, proactively engage with internal stakeholders and clients to manage and mitigate risks, and support Dojo's growth trajectory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Risk Assessments: Conduct thorough evaluations of potential Italian clients by analyzing financial documents, reviewing KYC information, and identifying risks related to financial crime.
  • Application Evaluations: Review new customer applications and requests for additional services that may increase risk or credit exposure, adhering to established SLAs.
  • Credit Analysis: Assess the creditworthiness of potential customers by considering various factors such as financial stability, cash flow, payment history, and industry trends.
  • KYC and KYB Verification: Execute Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business (KYB) verification processes to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Understanding Acquiring Risks: Analyze the acquiring risks associated with diverse propositions across various sectors and product offerings.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with commercial teams and clients to optimize onboarding processes, manage escalations, and advocate for risk management practices.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Compliance, Financial Crime, Legal, and other Risk teams to address high-risk applications and ensure robust risk management.
  • Policy Development: Contribute to the creation and refinement of policies and procedures within the underwriting function, identifying areas for enhancement.
  • Industry Awareness: Stay updated on market trends, regulatory changes, and conditions that may affect customer risk profiles.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in underwriting or credit risk within a financial institution, with strong analytical skills and a comprehensive understanding of the Italian market.
  • Education: Degree-level education or equivalent experience in credit risk, underwriting, or a related field within the financial services sector.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with Credit, Fraud, and AML risks specific to the Payments Industry, including card scheme regulations and chargeback processes.
  • Skills: Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, decision-making, and multitasking abilities.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills, capable of conveying complex underwriting decisions to various stakeholders.
  • Customer Orientation: A focus on customer satisfaction while effectively managing risk.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Personal Development: A drive to enhance your skills and a passion for innovation within the payments sector.
  • Languages: Fluency in English and Italian is essential.
