About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Underwriter to join our team in Milan, Italy. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive risk assessments of prospective Italian clients, analyzing financial statements, and identifying potential financial crime risks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments of new customer applications, including financial analysis and KYC documentation review.
  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of prospective customers, considering factors such as financial strength, payment history, and industry trends.
  • Perform Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business (KYB) verification steps to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Understand and mitigate acquiring risks in complex propositions across various clients and sectors.
  • Engage with commercial teams and clients to maximize onboarding opportunities and manage case escalations.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Financial Crime, Legal, and other Risk teams to address high-risk applications and ensure robust risk management practices.
  • Participate in creating and developing policies and processes across the underwriting function.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in underwriting or credit risk roles within a financial institution, with strong financial analysis skills and a deep understanding of the Italian market.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience in credit risk, underwriting, or a similar role within the financial services sector in the Italian market.
  • Knowledge of Credit, Fraud, and AML risk specifically within the Payments Industry, including knowledge of card scheme rules and industry regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, decision-making, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex underwriting decisions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • A customer-focused approach with the ability to balance risk management and customer satisfaction.
  • Business fluency in English and Italian.
