BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. WFP's Technology Division (TEC) is the digital business engine of our organization, providing WFP with multi-pronged and resilient technical capabilities to support the flexibility and rapid response required in humanitarian operations. TEC continues to increase activities to meet the growing demand for digital products and services as WFP matures in the adoption of digital transformation.
WFP has launched its digital transformation program with a strong focus on utilizing data for better informed decision-making. We are investing heavily in our deployment of Palantir Foundry, a leading data integration platform which enables solving optimization problems with data at scale, alongside platforms for deep field data collection, visual analytics, and corporate reporting.
Under the supervision of the DOTS Product Manager, the Deployment Strategist will be a key team member in leading the design, implementation, operation, and optimization of Foundry based data integration and engineering services to support WFP HQ and Field Offices worldwide.
The role focuses on the engagement with multi-disciplinary business teams to surface their data needs to co-create solutions intended to leverage data to make better informed operational decisions. This requires a strong background in data analytics as well as in-depth understanding of data governance, ontology, data modelling and technical components of a data project in Foundry, beginning to end.
The role supports the following responsibilities:

• Meet with business end-users to understand the critical questions they need to answer and their biggest pain points.

• Together with other team members, create and validate workflow designs and estimations. Ensure that a portfolio view is encapsulated in the development of workflows.

• Build a case for gaining access to relevant WFP and open datasets and work with data engineers to integrate data into a stable pipeline.

• Create and lead training sessions to ensure that the platform is meeting the needs of a range of users, that the use cases onboarded have the intended impact on operations and develop relevant training materials.

• Build and deliver demos to various audiences including analysts, senior leadership and general business users.

• Coordinate among TEC branches focused on information security, API services, corporate systems, governance etc. (as needed for specific Foundry initiatives).

• Develop content and foster engagement within the Data and Analytics Community, acting as a Product Expert for the WFP Data Fellows program.

This role requires a thorough understanding and experience in building solutions/workflows on Foundry. In addition, strong business/client engagement and written communications skills are required. The incumbent will feel comfortable both engaging diverse audiences on basic data concepts to providing in-depth training on complex data and digital subject matters. In addition, there are opportunities to represent WFP data management and integration best practices at events that may involve some of our corporate partnerships.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
1. Demonstrated progress on delivery of Foundry solutions with tracking of project activities and outcomes.
2. Documentation in knowledge management platforms on Foundry solutions including but not limited to, training curriculum/content/processes, data asset business rules and logic, corporate ontology object specifications, open data acquisition and use case decision workflows etc.
3. Delivery of best practice guidance and training sessions to WFP staff
4. Demonstrated progress on activities supporting key HQ and Field based events focused on demos, advocacy, training, or change management.
5. Product roadmap artefacts for Foundry solutions as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
University degree in computer engineering or computer science, information systems, data analytics/management, engineering, statistics, or other relevant disciplines.
Experience:

• 4+ years of relevant and progressive work experience in information management, information systems, web management, data management, GIS mapping, data visualization or project management.

• Soft skills necessary to elicit and validate requirements with key internal and client-side stakeholders and technical teams to help drive decision making around production of data assets, software releases and DevOps.

• Experience in delivering classroom and online training on data concepts, platforms/tools.

• Desirable: 1+ year Experience working with Palantir Foundry and knowledge of WFP business processes.
Knowledge & Skills:

• Rich experience and proven skills in working towards a common goal in a team of diverse skills, experience and cultural backgrounds, with heavy emphasis towards business and non-technical team members and stakeholders outside the team.

• High problem-solving skills and willingness to develop any technical skills needed, if any.

• Proven ability to analyse business processes, uncovering, shaping, and documenting business needs and requirements that are aligned with business strategies.

• Experience working with data analysis, or otherwise proven record of high technical aptitude and ability to work in highly technical and analytical environments.

• Experience solving analytical problems (doesn't need to be with code)

• Experience with geographically distributed teams where the focus on team- work and achieving deliverables require very strong communication skills – both written and verbal – to ensure team members are aligned on the final deliverables and processes to achieve high quality results.

• Strong understanding of project management methodologies and experience in project planning

• Desirable: Familiarity with current modern best practices around software development, data engineering and DevOps.

• Desirable: Working knowledge of PySpark, Python, SQL and other relevant ETL processes and exploratory data analysis languages.
Languages:
Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP's working language, Portuguese
