About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Privacy Counsel to join our team in the EMEA region. As a key member of our Privacy Office, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing our global data protection strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of our data protection strategy in the EMEA region, ensuring compliance with European and international regulations.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on data protection matters, including the development of policies and procedures.
  • Manage and coordinate data protection projects, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure effective implementation.
  • Collaborate with the Privacy Officer to maintain and update our inventory of processing activities, IT assets, and products, and to support the business in performing privacy impact assessments.
  • Establish and maintain effective policies, procedures, and work instructions to provide guidance to the business on data protection matters.
  • Develop and deliver training and awareness programs to ensure that employees, contractors, and third-party vendors understand their data protection responsibilities.
  • Support the management of data subject rights and personal data breaches, including drafting responses and interacting with local supervisory authorities.
  • Monitor and remediate privacy compliance, auditing, and monitoring activities to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of our data protection program.
Requirements
  • University degree in Law required.
  • In-house legal experience with a medical device or pharmaceutical company preferred, or similar experience in law firms or consultancies.
  • At least 4 years' experience of European and international data protection program development and management, including people management roles.
  • IAPP certification(s) (CIPP, CIPM, CIPT) required.
  • Deep knowledge of European data protection laws (in particular the GDPR and local data protection laws, regulations, and best practices) required.
  • Knowledge and experience of building and maintaining compliance programs and/or controls in a highly regulated area is required.
  • Experience of working in a multinational company and a complex, matrixed environment is a significant plus.
  • Proven ability to proactively drive projects as a self-starter, to exercise good independent judgement, and to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time (Switzerland or US twice a year).
