Job Title: Food Safety Officer

FAO is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Food Safety Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising on, managing, and implementing food control programmes and public sector policies for food safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and analysis on food safety and control systems, including policy and regulatory matters.
  • Develop and implement food control capacity development programmes and provide technical and policy advice to national and regional policy makers.
  • Collaborate with other FAO units and external partners to strengthen food safety and control systems.
  • Support the assessment of national food control systems and contribute to the development of training materials and technical guidance documents.
  • Provide technical assistance to Members with regard to their capacities to implement the food safety provisions of SPS related trade agreements.
Requirements:
  • Advanced university degree in a relevant field, such as chemistry, biochemistry, food science, or a related field.
  • Five years of relevant experience in advising on, managing, and implementing food control programmes and public sector policies for food safety.
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another official FAO language.

Technical/Functional Skills:
  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions.
  • Extensive knowledge of food control systems, including policy and regulatory matters, as well as implementation of official food control measures.
  • Experience in implementing food control capacity development programmes and providing technical and policy advice in relation to national and regional policy making processes.

Extension of fixed-term appointments is based on certification of performance and availability of funds. FAO reserves the right not to make an appointment. Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances.

A competitive compensation and benefits package is offered, including dependency allowances, rental subsidy, education grant for children, home leave travel, 30 working days of annual leave per year, pension fund entitlements under the UN Joint Staff Pension Fund, international health insurance, optional life insurance, and disability protection.
