Position Overview

Hitachi Rail is seeking a motivated and proactive Control Systems Engineer specializing in traction and auxiliary systems who excels in a dynamic work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Requirements Analysis to establish the project's Control Architecture and Detailed Specifications.
  • Model and simulate propulsion systems and power converters to assist in component sizing and topology selection.
  • Develop functions and algorithms to meet technical specifications.
  • Create and maintain Software and Firmware libraries.
  • Evaluate Harmonics Emission and implement control measures to comply with EMI standards.
  • Design diagnostic algorithms for propulsion and condition-based maintenance (CBM).
  • Ensure project Software documentation adheres to relevant railway standards and participate in Design Reviews.
  • Design Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments.
  • Design Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) environments.
  • Conduct Control Testing and Validation in both SIL and HIL settings.
  • Validate systems through combined testing.
  • Perform system integration testing and validation on board.
  • Provide commissioning and service support.
  • Support routine testing of control electronics and power converters.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of automation control theory and signal processing.
  • Proficient in key programming languages (C/C++, Python, Linux, Eclipse) with applications in real-time embedded systems.
  • Experience in developing control algorithms for real-time embedded systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with firmware development, microprocessor register programming, and handling peripheral drivers/interfaces is advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of power converter topologies and electrical/hybrid propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of control electronics and microprocessor architectures.
  • Familiarity with primary communication buses (CAN, Ethernet, MVB) and protocols (J1939, IPTCOM, TRDP, TCN).
  • Proficient in MathWorks modeling tools (MATLAB & Simulink).
  • Knowledge of VHDL and FPGA programming capabilities.
  • Understanding of Software Engineering standards (EN50128, EN 50657, IEEE1558).
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools (IBM Rational DOORS).

Education and Qualifications:
Degree in Automation, Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering; a Ph.D. in Automation Engineering is preferred.

Proficiency in English is required.
