Background

UNHRD is an emergency preparedness and response tool for WFP and the wider humanitarian community. The mandate of the UNHRD Network is to assist the population living in countries affected by natural disasters or complex emergencies, through a prepositioning of relief and survival items and their rapid mobilization to the affected countries, on behalf of UN humanitarian agencies, governments and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations. UNHRD manages five (5) strategically located hub worldwide (Panama, Ghana, Italy, Malaysia and UAE), and holds stockpiles of emergency relief items and support equipment, including WFP corporate response stocks, currently valued at USD50m.

UNHRDs digitalization process has undergone significant changes in the last two years. The purpose of this role is to complete development and integration of several platforms providing an interactive and un-obstructive possibility for stakeholders to engage with UNHRD activity.  Deep data analysis and predictive modelling should eventually guide future decision-making

Under the overall supervision of the UNHRD Network Coordinator, direct supervision of the Information Management and Reports Officer, the incumbent will support the UNHRD lead Data Scientist to:

Duties and responsibilities

• Leverage UNHRD data to inform strategic decision-making using advanced data techniques.
• Provide actionable insights to senior management on stock prepositioning and emergency response.
• Contribute to digital transformation strategies within UNHRD.
• Apply data processing techniques to WFP's SAP system using Python to create new data sources for dashboards and reports.
• Develop and maintain pipelines in UNHRD DOTS project.
• Build and customize Tableau dashboards aligned with business requirements and maintain them on the UNHRD digital platform.
• Consolidate inputs from the UNHRD Network for quarterly KPI reporting.
• Explore AI/ML applications for humanitarian logistics and anticipatory actions.
• Investigate academic literature to identify new data modeling approaches for supply chain optimization.
• Coordinate with multiple hubs and stakeholders to harmonize data processes.
• Create documentation and guidelines for data workflows and best practices.
• Train UNHRD staff on data tools and methodologies.
• Support knowledge-sharing initiatives across hubs.
• Other duties as required 

Requirements:

• University degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistic or similar;

• Knowledge of data visualization and visual storytelling, preferably Tableau;

• Knowledge of Python and SQL programming languages;

• Deep understanding of data wrangling techniques;

• High-level understanding of humanitarian logistics and awareness of the humanitarian context;

• Knowledge of Machine Learning techniques and experience with time series forecasting and recommender systems.

• Familiarity with the data integration software Foundry would be an advantage.  

• Fluency in spoken and written English
