We are seeking an Urban Energy Leader to become a vital part of our Sustainable Development (SUS) team within the Milan Office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Urban Energy and Cities Decarbonisation initiatives for Arup Italy.
  • Coordinate the Urban Energy Hub, serving as a center of excellence that integrates various competencies and resources, including net zero carbon policies at the city level, renewable energy advisory, and urban energy infrastructure strategy and design.
  • Drive business development efforts in the Urban Energy market, collaborating with relevant business leaders across sectors such as Cities, Transport, Property, and Energy.
  • Support climate and sustainability initiatives in Italy, focusing on climate services for both public and private clients.
  • Assist in promotional activities for the Sustainable Development Leader and Business Investment Advisory Leader within the energy and climate sectors.
  • Enhance the Urban Energy network across Europe, leveraging the Urban Energy Hub.
  • Engage with key market stakeholders, including cities, investors, developers, utilities, international financing institutions, corporates, and public clients, to identify market trends and opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain strategic plans for identified Urban Energy clients, contributing to the preparation of high-quality proposals.
  • Establish a strong market presence as an expert voice, participating in sector-specific events and conferences to elevate Arup's visibility in the Energy and Resources sector.
  • Advance capabilities in European and national Urban Energy and Carbon policy development, focusing on mitigation and decarbonisation strategies, as well as energy transition solutions at the city scale.
  • Enhance expertise in Urban Energy strategy and design, aligning with climate adaptation and resilience strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Over 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficient in industry standards and methodologies, with a solid understanding of models and analytical approaches used in energy, utilities, and infrastructure business cases.
  • Experienced in quantitative policy analysis within energy, transport, or climate change sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of leading economic models and the skills necessary to unlock sustainable development opportunities across energy, infrastructure, or transport sectors.
  • Experience in business planning, feasibility studies, financial and cost-benefit analyses, and strategic project evaluations to support low-carbon solutions.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage projects effectively.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage collaboratively with team members and clients.
  • Proven line management experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of numeracy.
  • Proficient in analytical and presentation tools, including MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated interest and capability in business development and client engagement.
  • Fluency in both English and Italian.
