Urban Energy Leader

We are seeking an Urban Energy Leader to join our Sustainable Development team in Arup Milan Office. This role will require a range of quantitative and qualitative skills, including leading Urban Energy & Cities Decarbonisation activities, coordinating the Urban Energy Hub, and leading market business development activities.

Your Role:
  • Lead the Urban Energy & Cities Decarbonisation activities of Arup Italy.
  • Coordinate the Urban Energy Hub as a centre of integration/excellence of different competencies and resources.
  • Lead the Urban Energy market business development activities in Arup Italy, coordinating with relevant Business leaders.
  • Support the Climate & Sustainability portfolio activities in Italy, focusing on Climate services for external public and private clients.
  • Support the promotional activities of the SD Leader and BIA Leader in the energy and climate sector.
  • Liaise regularly with key market players to identify and sense the market and be up to date on the pipeline of potential opportunities.
  • Create and maintain plans for strategic clients identified for Urban Energy and support the preparation of high-quality proposals.
  • Generate an impact in the market by being an expert voice, taking part in sector-specific events and congresses to raise the visibility of Arup in the Energy & resources sector.
  • Expand capacity and firm in European and national Urban Energy & Carbon policy development, strategies, and action plans, particularly mitigation-decarbonisation solutions, and knowledge of associated energy transition solutions at city-scale.
  • Expand capabilities on Urban energy strategy and design in coordination with Climate adaptation and resilience strategies alongside the ER Climate resilience and adaptation Service Leader.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Expert use of industry guidance and techniques and a working understanding of models and analytical approaches used in the development of energy, utilities, and infrastructure business cases.
  • Experienced in quantitative policy analysis as part of the policymaking process in, for example, the energy, transport, or climate change portfolios.
  • Expert knowledge of leading economic models and the associated influencing skills necessary to unlock sustainable development opportunities across the energy, infrastructure, or transport sectors.
  • Ability to work with short lead-in times and strict project deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to engage actively with other team members and clients, and to communicate with impact.
  • Line management experience/capability.
  • Highly numerate, and comfortable with critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Strong knowledge of analytical and presentation tools, including MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interest and proven capability in business development and client engagement.
  • Fluent in both English and Italian language.
