Job Summary:

The General Manager at Zanzibar Pearl is responsible for overseeing the overall operation of the hotel, ensuring that it is well-managed and profitably run. This includes managing all segments of the hotel, including lodging, food and beverage, human resources, housekeeping, gardens, and maintenance, as well as other guest services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hotel Management:
    • Ensure the hotel is well-managed and profitably run, with a focus on maintaining high standards of cleanliness, maintenance, and functionality.
    • Manage all aspects of hotel operations, including front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, and maintenance.
    • Liaise with directors to ensure that the hotel is well-promoted and that marketing efforts are effective.
    • Monitor and control expenses, including labor costs, inventory, and supplies.
  • Customer Service:
    • Ensure that all guests have a positive experience, with a focus on providing excellent customer service and resolving any issues that may arise.
    • Conduct daily inspections of rooms, kitchen, laundry, stores, pool, staff quarters, public toilets, bar and restaurant area, offices, and grounds to ensure that they are all up to code.
    • Greets, welcomes, and briefs guests at arrival, creates standards surveys, and finds acceptable solutions to problems that may arise.
    • Provides basic information to guests, visitors, or clients, and coordinates functions or events for guests as needed.
  • Human Resources:
    • Train staff and induct new staff members or trainees, and maintain employee records and files reports regarding employee performance and effectiveness.
    • Implement written procedures for every department and prepare job descriptions for each staff member.
    • Prepare routine and tasks for every department in terms of scheduled action to guarantee the hotel and all the environment is to the highest standard of cleanliness, maintenance, functionality.
    • Collaborate with directors to set goals for employees and organize their performance appraisal.
  • Financial Responsibility:
    • Ensure all revenues from accommodation, bar sales, laundry, etc. are collected, and fiscal receipts are issued for every transaction.
    • Maintain the stock always at needed levels to satisfy the hotel need, and maintain the inventory of all departments always updated.
    • Operate any issues from store only following a written requisition, and monitor payroll, customer billing, and expense accounts.
    • Facilitate the collection of payments for goods or services, and prepare the hotel plan and budget.

Requirements:

  • Able to work under pressure, flexible on working hours, able to maximize the given budget.
  • Fluent in English (obligatory).
  • 100% availability to travel (obligatory).
