Position Overview

The Infrastructure Maintenance Specialist is accountable for the upkeep, servicing, and repair of transportation networks and various infrastructure components. This role involves ensuring the integrity of contracted assets, including roadways, signage, guardrails, bridges, and landscaping, in accordance with established standards and under the guidance of a supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establishes safe Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T) protocols through the installation and removal of traffic control devices such as cones, message boards, and temporary signage.
  • Operates from elevated positions using bucket trucks, scaffolding, ladders, and aerial lifts.
  • Conducts basic maintenance and repairs on bridge structures and associated equipment, including railings and expansion joints.
  • Ensures the functionality of roadway drainage systems, including catch basins and pumps, utilizing hand tools and power equipment.
  • Maintains and repairs ventilation systems within equipment rooms.
  • Handles basic electrical maintenance tasks, including emergency communication systems and electronic signage.
  • Transports personnel and equipment to various job sites using specialized vehicles.
  • Participates in emergency response rotations, which may require overtime, evening, weekend, and holiday availability.
  • Contributes positively to a diverse and inclusive workplace, promoting a culture free from discrimination and harassment.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures in the execution of duties.
  • Maintains and repairs highway surfaces, addressing issues such as potholes and striping.
  • Ensures cleanliness of highways and medians through debris removal.
  • Manages vegetation control using appropriate equipment and methods.
  • Repairs and maintains the appearance of signs, guardrails, and lighting fixtures.
  • Keeps roadways clear of snow and ice using removal and sanding equipment.
  • Remains available for emergency response as required.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.
  • Complies with all relevant legal requirements to mitigate potential legal challenges.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proven knowledge of infrastructure maintenance practices.
  • Commitment to safe work practices to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Ability to identify hazards in both routine and non-routine tasks.
  • Willingness to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical functions.
  • Capability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Competence in reading and interpreting safety and operational documents.
  • Flexibility and readiness to work extended hours as needed.
  • Attention to detail and accountability for assigned responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with standard methods and tools used in construction and maintenance.
  • Skill in using hand and power tools relevant to the job.
  • Professional interaction with the public.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required).
  • Minimum of one year of experience in infrastructure maintenance (Preferred).
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is necessary for operating company vehicles.
  • CDL, DOT certifications, and Electrical/Welding Certifications are highly desirable.

Work Conditions and Physical Demands

The role requires the ability to stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks. Employees must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted and using both manual and powered tools. Vision requirements include the ability to see both near and far, with depth perception and color vision being essential.

Work Environment

Employees may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, and may encounter traffic and hazardous materials. The noise level in the work environment can vary from moderate to high.
