About the Role

Hitachi Rail S.p.A. is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Field Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our rail systems, from maintenance planning to execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement maintenance plans to ensure optimal system performance and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve technical issues, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Manage infrastructure-based systems to receive notifications and maintenance alerts, and develop data-driven solutions for condition-based maintenance.
  • Provide performance analysis and recommendations for improvements to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the development of technical specifications for depot tools, including design review, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Train maintainers on new procedures and technologies, ensuring seamless knowledge transfer.
  • Conduct failure analysis for warranty claims and validate maintenance manuals and telediagnostic messages.
  • Ensure the implementation of maintenance plans at depot level and external sites, from commissioning phase to ongoing operations.
  • Support project teams through on-field analyses, optimizing maintenance regimes and developing optimized maintenance practices.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering procedures and practices, and support the assessment and approval of new suppliers.
  • Collaborate with the quality control function to report component or train failures, assess reparability, and identify safety risks.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in railway vehicles maintenance engineering application.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a technical degree in a related field.
  • Previous work in the railway maintenance sector, with a focus on maintenance plan optimization, complex troubleshooting, and RAMS analysis.
  • Ability to interpret contract specifications, read and understand drawings, schematics, and cable plans.
  • Availability for short trips, typically lasting several days, for most of the time.

Desired Skills

  • Previous experience in maintenance field engineering on railway fleets.
  • Basic working knowledge of rail train subsystems, such as Automatic Train Supervision, Vehicle, Telecommunication, STB, Pneumatic brake, traction converter, HVAC, etc.
  • Basic understanding of software configuration management (CM) and software programming logic.
  • Basic working knowledge of statistical analysis programs.
  • Operation and maintenance processes.
  • Previous experience on ECM projects and homologation planning.
  • Railway operations and signaling principles.
  • Planning and organization.
  • Spare part analysis, definition, and forecast setup according to return of experience.
  • Design to maintain and continuous improvement willingness and attitude.

Education and Qualifications

Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical Engineering or System Engineering Qualifications/Associate Degree or equivalent technical background.
