FAO's Animal Production and Health Division (NSA) assists Member Nations in enhancing the livestock sector's contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The division has developed the Global Livestock Assessment Model (GLEAM) to quantify environmental impacts globally and employs lifecycle assessment (LCA) to calculate greenhouse gas emissions. To enhance the model's relevance for designing mitigation policies, NSA has initiated a project to update data and methods, creating a new generation of the model (GLEAM-X) as a unified web application capable of simulating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the impacts of mitigation across various scenarios and scales, from farm to country and regional levels.

Reporting Structure:
The Livestock Policy Officer (Livestock and Climate Change Specialist) reports to the Livestock Policy Officer (Systems Analysis), under the overall supervision of the Chief, NSAL.

Technical Focus:
The incumbent will support the team in expanding and updating methodologies used to quantify emission baselines and the impacts of mitigation interventions for livestock systems. This includes recommending and implementing innovative approaches for additional species and emission sources, systematically collecting and harmonizing relevant global datasets, and ensuring adequate documentation following international standards while coordinating contributions from various external and internal collaborators.
