Job Summary

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled Sustainability Lead to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for overseeing the sustainability program and ensuring consistency in design deliverables across all capital programs.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Deputy Director, you will work closely with engineers, architects, operators, community boards, and urban planners to implement City-wide sustainability objectives. Your primary responsibility will be to manage the sustainability program, which involves developing Bureau-specific standards and working with various stakeholders to achieve our sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sustainability standards and guidelines for all capital programs
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure consistency in design deliverables
  • Work with community boards and urban planners to implement sustainability objectives
  • Manage the sustainability program and ensure its alignment with City-wide goals
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including engineers, architects, and community boards

Requirements

  • Valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer
  • Six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity

Preferred Skills

  • Demonstrates collaborative team approaches
  • Experience helping foster a positive team environment
  • Excellent communication, organization, writing, and public speaking skills
  • Preference may be given to candidates with LEED and/or Envision accreditation
  • Computer proficiency, including AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
