About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Director to join our Global Business Development team at Chiesi Farmaceutici. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and assessing new business opportunities, establishing and nurturing external relationships, and leading negotiations with counterparts across the business development process.

Main Responsibilities
  • Continuously monitor and perform systematic landscaping of the external innovation space within the AIR space to identify business development opportunities aligned with corporate and franchise strategy.
  • Generate and build an extensive international network in the AIR space and communicate Chiesi's value proposition to potential external partners.
  • Build and nurture solid relationships and cooperation with R&D, commercial, and other relevant corporate functions, and effectively lead cross-functional teams.
  • Provide project leadership on AIR business development opportunities, ensuring strong coordination and effective communication between the Chiesi team and external partners from initial assessment to deal closure.
  • Guarantee a clear information flow, involvement, and alignment of all stakeholders and robustness of the final outcome from a scientific, business, and financial perspective, including recommendations to governance/management.
  • Assemble business cases and lead financial modeling/valuation for all types of AIR opportunities and generate appropriate deal structures and terms that align internal and external interests in coordination with the Senior Director of Global Business Development.
  • Maintain and solidify relationships with partners and/or counterparts throughout discussions and actively participate or lead in the negotiation phase in coordination with the Senior Director of Global Business Development.
  • Pitch opportunities to senior leadership for approval and keep them regularly informed, providing reports on results, inflection points, and decisions to be made. Facilitate the handover to the Alliance Management and Integration Team pre- and post-deal.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a degree in life sciences and/or pharmaceutical sciences, with a PhD or MBA being considered a significant plus. A minimum of 5 years of international experience in business development roles in the Pharma and Biotech industry, with a track record of deals closed for assets under development and in-market, preferably with global scope and in the AIR space, is required. Additional experience in finance, consulting, or R&D is a plus. International exposure, including significant experience abroad and previous experience in a multinational organization, is also required.
