Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher to engage in a 24-month project focused on the development of innovative soft mechanical sensing technologies through 3D printing.

Location

The position is based in Genoa, Italy.

Your Research Team

You will collaborate with a diverse and international team led by Dr. Lucia Beccai, contributing to groundbreaking research in state-of-the-art facilities.

Research Objectives

The primary focus of this role is to conceptualize, create, and evaluate cutting-edge soft mechanical sensing solutions utilizing 3D printing technologies for applications in soft robotics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and manufacture soft mesoscale active structures using 3D printing techniques that incorporate multiple materials with varying properties (mechanical, electrical, optical, etc.) for advanced mechanical sensing.
  • Explore and assess innovative materials with tailored properties suitable for 3D printing processes.
  • Characterize and evaluate the performance of 3D printed soft mechanical sensors.

Essential Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in material science, micro/nanotechnology, electrical engineering, or related fields.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in fabrication techniques, particularly Digital Light Processing (DLP) printing, multimaterial printing, and soft material deposition.
  • Proven expertise in developing and characterizing flexible and stretchable smart materials, especially for 3D printing applications.
  • Experience in mentoring PhD students.
  • Strong skills in mechanical design and testing of soft mechanical sensors.
  • A solid publication record in relevant fields.
  • Proficient in organizing, reporting, and publishing research findings.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Experience in preparing research project proposals.
