We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to engage in cutting-edge research focused on the development of innovative soft mechanical sensing solutions utilizing 3D printing technology.

Research Team

You will be part of a diverse and interdisciplinary research team led by Dr. Lucia Beccai, collaborating on groundbreaking projects within state-of-the-art facilities.

Research Objectives

The primary goal of this research position is to design, fabricate, and evaluate fully integrated soft mechanical sensing solutions through advanced 3D printing techniques.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design and manufacture soft mesoscale active structures by 3D printing, incorporating multiple materials with varying properties (mechanical, electrical, optical, etc.) for enhanced mechanical sensing capabilities.
  • Explore and assess innovative materials with tailored properties compatible with 3D printing processes.
  • Characterize and validate the performance of 3D printed soft mechanical sensors.

Essential Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in material science, micro/nanotechnology, electrical engineering, or related fields.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in fabrication processes, particularly Digital Light Processing (DLP) printing, multimaterial printing, and soft material casting/deposition.
  • Proven expertise in developing and characterizing flexible and stretchable smart materials.
  • Strong skills in mechanical design and testing of soft mechanical sensors.
  • A solid publication record demonstrating research contributions.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with proficiency in both spoken and written English.
  • Experience in preparing project proposals.
