YOUR RESEARCH TEAM

The Soft Robotics and Bioinspired Prototyping (SBRP) research line is under the guidance of Dr. Lucia Beccai. You will collaborate within a diverse and multidisciplinary team, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities to conduct joint research efforts.

The focus of this position is to conceptualize and create continuum manipulators inspired by the functionality of the elephant trunk. Key objectives include exploring innovative metamaterial-based soft actuators and developing advanced multidimensional soft gripping systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and manufacture of continuum manipulators and end-effectors
  • Conduct parametric and topological optimization
  • Perform kinematic modeling and analysis
  • Characterize actuated systems and validate robotic solutions

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, or a closely related field
  • Proven experience and expertise in:
    • Mechanical design and production of tendon-driven and pneumatically actuated soft systems
    • Numerical modeling (Ansys, Comsol) and simulation (MATLAB) of kinematics
    • Computer-aided design for device prototyping and fabrication (SolidWorks, Siemens NX)
    • Fabrication techniques for soft systems, including 3D printing
    • A strong publication record
    • Ability to effectively document, organize, and disseminate research findings
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English
