BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
In recent years, the Programa Mundial de Alimentos (WFP) has faced an extraordinary surge in emergencies while continuing its regular operations. This heightened demand challenges the organization, necessitating innovative approaches and methodologies to ensure optimal resource allocation for those we serve.
The Change Management and Business Innovation Unit (BIU) was established to oversee transformation and foster innovation within WFP's Innovation and Knowledge Management division:
BIU serves as the advisory body for WFP BIU comprises professionals with prestigious management consulting backgrounds (e.g., Bain, BCG, McKinsey) alongside UN experienceWe implement projects on behalf of Executive Directors, Assistant Secretary Generals, and Directors throughout the UN system, establishing ourselves as a trusted advisor to WFP and other organizations (e.g., UN Women, UNFPA, Business Innovation Group). Our emphasis is on comprehensive solutions, including problem identification, data analysis, operational model design, change strategy, and implementation oversight.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Execution of Business Innovation initiatives Management of overall Innovation and Change Management priorities Participation in the BIU leadership team Additional responsibilities as requiredDELIVERABLES:
Depending on the timing of joining, the candidate's unique experience, and current organizational priorities, the candidate will be accountable for delivering one or two projects concurrently. Examples of specific deliverables include:
Corporate Executive Director, Board and divisional key initiatives Provide guidance to Division Chief/Directors on prioritizing key corporate initiatives, facilitate discussions with team members and other divisions to align on objectives, activities, timelines, and outputs, and lead analytical and project management support. UN Reform: Facilitate UN Reform implementation within WFP and contribute to an inter-agency project team Advise on data collection methodologies (e.g., developing/updating data collection templates, conducting training sessions for participating UN entities, supporting data missions in various countries, etc.); Lead a team to conduct analysis and visualizations to derive insights and enable the CBO Project Team to make informed, data-driven decisions, and manage communication efforts related to UN Reform. Additional divisional needs As a member of the BIU leadership team, oversee knowledge management reviews and best practices sharing, recruit, develop, and retain BIU team members, mentor junior staff, providing guidance on complex analyses and inquiries, and offer additional project support based on the pipeline and new projects contracted during the contract period, as necessary.QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Preference for a degree in business, economics, or engineering.
Experience:
A minimum of six years of professional experience in management consulting, change management, investment banking, or private equity. Previous experience in an international organization is also essential.
Knowledge & Skills:
Extensive knowledge and/or experience in change management and business innovation. Comprehensive understanding of best practices and techniques for process optimization (e.g., strategic planning, sourcing, logistics, finance processes, performance management, etc.) Familiarity with methodologies for developing new strategies and enhancing efficiencies. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of addressing diverse audiences. Advanced analytical capabilities, both quantitative and qualitative: proficiency in conducting advanced analyses in Excel and producing high-quality written materials, including PowerPoint presentations and text documents. Self-motivated with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines, adapt to rapidly changing environments, and maintain meticulous attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various teams and clients, fostering positive working relationships. Ability to identify client needs and align them with appropriate and innovative solutions. Fully committed and motivated to fulfill the objectives of the Programa Mundial de Alimentos.Languages:
In addition to a high proficiency in written and spoken English, knowledge of a second UN language is advantageous.
